Port Elizabeth Masterplan

This city centre mixed-used redevelopment is intended to act as a catalyst for regeneration of the local area in association with local government and private business.

Comprising historic buildings and an open car park a new set of diverse uses have been established to breath new life into the site, including cultural, business, commercial, retail, restaurants, bars, cafes, leisure, entertainment, hotel and parking.

The cultural highlight is a new museum, enabling visitors (for the first time) to experience the cells where a number of renowned/notorious individuals were held including Steve Biko and PM Vorster. This also provides a physically secure and environmentally controlled space to store important archive resource for academic research.
